Pros

  • Doesn't mess with a good formula
  • Looks great
  • Has a few new game modes

Cons

  • Has in-app purchases even though it's still FreeCell

FreeCell Collection Free for Windows 10 is a free collection of FreeCell games.

FreeCell is the beloved "other" card game that's been present on Windows systems for years, and now it's back with a new coat of paint. It's graphically improved and features some great new modes, but the best thing about this package is that it didn't really mess with anything. FreeCell is absolutely still FreeCell, and you can pick up and play this game just like you did a decade ago. There's something great about a game that doesn't go out of its way to change what already works.

There are two real problems with this release. The first, and perhaps the most important, is that the game features microtransactions. The microtransactions don't really effect anything in the game and they're fairly easily ignored, but it is both weird and annoying that they exist in a game of FreeCell. The only other is the fact that the game is, well, FreeCell. If you didn't like it before, a new coat of paint isn't going to make you like it now. It's still an odd game that's frustrating for many, and new game modes aren't going to help anyone with that problem.

It's hard not to recommend this FreeCell Collection. Sure, it's still got all the problems that every other game of FreeCell has ever had, but it's also still got all the lovely simplicity that's defined the game for decades. There's nothing new here that's going to sell you on the game, but it's good to know that the new release is still just as reliable as what's come before.
